Fajardo ferry - fast and nice
Fajardo ferry is foranyone. If you're of an adventurous frame of mind, and have time to spare, you can revert to the mode of transportation that islanders used before the advent of air travel: Fajardo ferry and the traditional mailboats.
Although fast, modern, air-conditioned Fajardo ferry now make some of the trips, some of the more remote destinations are still served by slow, old-fashioned craft with few amenities. Within the $loc ferry, it has the most, and most comfortable, options for island-hopping, that offer food and beverages served by cabin attendants.

The current ferry system in Puerto Rico is managed by the Autoridad de Transporte Maritimo (ATM). The main routes are: San Juan - Hato Rey - Catano and Fajardo - Vieques - Culebra. The fares range from $0.50 to $2.00. There are also private ferries that have regular trips from Fajardo to Saint Thomas and other Caribbean Islands. Ferry service between Fajardo, Culebra and Vieques is the main mode of transportation between the islands of Culebra and Vieques and the Puerto Rico mainland. On the other hand, the ferry service between Old San Juan, Hato Rey and Catano is one more transportation option for the residents of the San Juan Metropolitan Area. Additional ferry service may be available in the future with the implementation of new ferry routes between Roosevelt Roads in Ceiba, Vieques and Culebra. It is not clear at the moment if this service will replace current service to Fajardo, or if it will be in addition to the existing service. The Fajardo Puerto Rican Port Authority 400 passenger ferries run between the town of Fajardo and Vieques several times a day. The ride generally takes about one hour and 15 minutes. The car ferry takes about two hours. The time may vary upon the boat you board and the weather conditions.
